Hibbard Inshore - Services - Cable Lay Inspection |
The massive explosion of the Internet and the privatization of public telephone utilities has had companies worldwide scrambling to provide the infrastructure required to support fast-growing telecommunication needs. Typically, the task of laying cable requires the services of a remote operated vehicle (ROV), particularly in underwater locations where high currents exist. Cable systems are significant capital expenditures and bring in correspondingly high revenue. To secure these assets from damage, which is quite common from deepwater fishing activities, natural seabed movement, and other threats, the cables are buried into the seabed. Cable burial or trenching, using ROVs, is either conducted during cable laying operations or shortly thereafter. The ROV can also inspect the locations prior to, and following, cable burial.
