Remote operated vehicles (ROVs) have become almost indispensable when inspecting long tunnels. In this type of underwater work, the deployed ROV usually has an array of instruments, including video cameras, manipulators, and sensors, to complete the job. At times the ROV might carry a magnetometer, which detects fluctuations of the earth's magnetic fields and can locate ferrous metals in water.
